Paul MacAlister 1941 Plan-A-Room Interior Design Floor Planning Wood Kit Miniature In Box. This is a rare find in its original box for any interior designer or miniature collector. Plan a room kits were originated and designed by Paul MacAlister an internationally known interior designer, this is the original in which was copyrighted in 1941. They began mass producing them in 1950's and the box was blue and white.
This box is original with an applied Plan a Room label on top of the red and white stripes. Kit includes the original box, Plan a room manual, wood furniture pieces, wood planning grid, wall and floor cards.
There are 84 pieces in all. Scale ½ = 1 foot. MacAlister produced one of the first TV shows on home design in Chicago in the mid-1950s.
He later served as a consultant and appeared frequently on the NBC Home Show. He developed and mass-produced "Plan-a-Room" kits with scale furniture and room layouts that could be used to plan and organize home spaces for consumers. The kits were also used by 1500 schools and colleges as a visual planning device. Shows light signs of wear from age.
